Her first book\, Be Brave in the Scared\, earned a 2020 Excellence in Publishing Award from the Association of Catholic Publishers.  Her second book Be Bold in the Broken\, was published in 2021.  She has given keynotes at conferences and led retreats internationally. Her written work has appeared in five meditation books as  well as several other works. \nMary and her husband Jerry have been happily married for 33 years\, and were blessed with two children\, their son Jonathan\, and daughter Courtney.  For twenty-two years Mary was the primary caregiver for her daughter Courtney who suffered from a seizure disorder. Along the way\, Mary and her family came to understand that every human life\, no matter their ability or disability\, has value and worth. Courtney’s unique ability to love without ever speaking a word\, taught Mary\, and her family that  everyone has a purpose and a mission. Words are not required. They came to accept that Courtney would never be healed on this earth and allowed  God’s plan for their family to unfold\, trusting in His plan for each of them. Courtney took her last breath on this side of heaven on December 27\, 2014\,  the feast of St. John the Beloved\, while in her mother’s arms. She is now her parent’s and big brother’s most powerful intercessor. \nMary continues to embrace her father’s advice daily: “Never quit\,  never give up\, never lose your faith. It’s the one reason you walk this earth.  For God chose this time and place just for you\, so make the most of it.” \nSr. Mary Gabriel\, SV: Realize the Gifts You’ve Been Given \n \nSister Mary Gabriel is a member of the Sisters of Life\, a religious community founded by John Cardinal O’Connor and dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the sacredness of human life. The community’s apostolates include direct services to women in need and evangelizing on God’s plan for life and love (www.sistersoflife.org). Originally from Long Island\, NY\, Sr. Mary Gabriel earned a degree from the University of Dallas before entering the Sisters of Life in 1999. She assisted the development of the community’s evangelization mission and served as Vocation Director for 5 years and Novice Director for 10 years before completing a graduate degree in theology at the John Paul II Institute in Washington\, DC\, in December 2022. She has been involved with GIVEN since its inception and is in awe at the ways Jesus brings her passion for his Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit to bear on her love and concern for his daughters and highlighting the gift of their lives and love. \nKatie Weiss: Respond With the Gift Only You Can Give \n \nA participant of the first GIVEN Forum in 2016\, Katie Weiss (Woltornist)’s action plan was to lead a small group program on prayer and art. This action plan later developed into Behold Visio Divina\, a ministry that helps women understand their dignity through pondering the feminine genius in art. \nThrough books\, group formation\, online community\, museum days\, and workshops\, Behold gives women the opportunity to grow in their relationship with God and one another. Currently\, Behold has 9 published books and has groups both within the United States and internationally. \nKatie is a New Jersey native and received her undergraduate degree in Theology from Catholic Distance University. Her talks and workshops have been featured in multiple venues\, such as the Frassati Fellowship of New York City\, the Edith Stein Project\, and Franciscan University. Katie speaks often on the topics of: Prayer\, Theology of the Body\, Beauty\, Healing through Art\, and the Feminine Genius. \nMel K. Palaca ’21: Emcee\nMel Kathleen Palaca is an extroverted cradle Catholic who had a reversion her sophomore year of college. After living like the world\, she found herself broken and hollow. In the quiet adoration chapel of St. Kilian\, alongside her mother and sister\, she found a quiet invitation to know the Lord intimately for the first time. A lot of adventures and prayer has taken place since that fateful night but to this day\, her favorite way of knowing the Lord has remained weekly Eucharistic Adoration. “It’s the place where I am invited to be rather than do. When I am there\, I remember who I am.” During the day\, Mel has the great delight of working as a makeup engineer. \n  \nGET TICKETS \n  \nPlease contact us with any questions!

DESCRIPTION:Join GIVEN at the Sisters of Life Villa Maria Guadalupe retreat house in Stamford\, CT for a weekend retreat on the theme of receiving the gift that you are. This retreat is open to women of all ages. \nEach of us is a gift from the Father! But receive His loving affirmation–you are also a gift to Him. \nYou will experience: \n\nSingle-occupancy lodging (may have a shared or common bathroom) for 2 nights\nMeals from dinner Friday to brunch Sunday\nMass on Saturday and Sunday and Liturgy of the Hours with the Sisters of Life\nTalks by GIVEN retreat leaders to inspire you to receive the gift that you are\nThe opportunity for Adoration and Confession\nThe opportunity to rest and enjoy community with fellow retreatants while taking in Villa Maria Guadalupe’s peaceful grounds\n\nCome be refreshed in the Lord’s Heart after a busy start to the year; be reminded of your identity as a beloved daughter and a gift! \nWe hope to see you there! SUMMARY:Fundraising with a Purpose: GIVEN Academy with Sr. Bernadette Mota\, FMA
DESCRIPTION:We’re getting ready to start a new year and a great time to jumpstart your fundraising efforts! Join us on Thursday\, December 15th as Sr. Bernadette Mota\, Director of Mission Advancement for the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco\, will share with you some valuable strategies to expand your mission.  Whether your organization is just beginning or has a development office in place\, these resources will help you take a critical look at what you are doing and how you can make enhancements. You will also learn about what it takes to create a successful pitch and business plan.\nFor the first time\, you can attend GIVEN Academy either online or in-person at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington\, DC! In-person attendance includes early access to the Shrine\, prayer with the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy and veneration of Saint John Paul II’s relic\, and a networking reception before the presentation. Both in-person and online attendance include Q&A with Sr. Bernadette\, a resource notebook on the presentation topic\, and access to the session recording after attending. \nAbout the Presenter \nSr. Bernadette was born and raised in Southern California and is one of six siblings.  She participated in youth\, high school and collegiate athletics and was a recreation coordinator prior to dropping everything to serve as a lay missionary.  She thought she would be living with other young adult lay missionaries but found herself living in a convent with a bunch of sisters. That year turned everything upside down for her\, and she decided to enter religious life with the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco in 2005. She has a special place in her heart for accompanying young adults on their journey from her own experience in college campus ministry and young adult ministry.  Her ministry experience includes young adult ministry\, high school and college campus ministry\, athletics\, youth faith formation\, outreach ministry\, and fundraising and is presently serving as the Province Director of Mission Advancement in San Antonio\, Texas.

SUMMARY:Work/Life Balance: GIVEN Academy with Jackie Mulligan
DESCRIPTION:Reform is a Christ-centered wellness ministry. They redefine health as the state of body and soul together—and it’s their mission to empower you to redefine your health and reclaim your well-being and identity in Jesus. As a society\, we’ve become addicted to stress-sustaining habits. We accept demands to do more and multitask to increase productivity. We’ve started to believe that the busier we are\, the greater our value. We’ve confused our God-given identity and dignity with being productive. Through the framework of Reform’s nine Wellness Pillars: Faith\, Sleep\, Stress Management\, Personal Growth\, Nutrition\, Play\, Community\, and Space\, Jackie will educate and equip you with tools to recenter your life and work in Christ. You are cordially invited to do less and return to a life of simplicity centered on the One who heals\, renews\, and reforms. \nFor the first time\, you can attend GIVEN Academy either online or in-person at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington\, DC! In-person attendance includes early access to the Shrine\, prayer with the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy and veneration of Saint John Paul II’s relic\, and a networking reception before the presentation. Both in-person and online attendance include Q&A with Jackie\, a resource notebook on the presentation topic\, and access to the session recording after attending. \nAbout the Presenter \nJackie Mulligan is the Chief Eucharistic Officer and foundress of Reform Wellness\, a Christ-Centered Wellness Ministry. Reform merges faith and functional health to support Priests\, religious\, and laity worldwide to heal their whole person: body and soul.

SUMMARY:GIVEN Academy: From Water into Wine: A Practical and Pastoral Approach to turn Resources into Impact with Ashley Conley
DESCRIPTION:Not too long ago a Parish Finance Committee Chair suggested parishes don’t need to budget.  “God will provide” he said.  While it is true that God will provide\, that doesn’t absolve us of our responsibility to be good stewards of the gifts\, or in this case\, financial resources\, He has given us. Better yet\, if we want to actually “Go and Make Disciples”  we will need to ensure we have the resources available and that those resources are aligned to support the mission. The budgeting process when well designed and collaboratively implemented will do just that. This presentation will walk through the who\, what\, how and why of budgeting\, while also identifying the pitfalls along the budget journey. \nLed by Ashley Conley \nRegistration includes: \n-livestream link \n-chance to ask questions live of the presenter \n-customized notebook with resources
